Margaret E. Kane Smith 89 of Bassett, Virginia, formerly of Steubenville, Ohio died Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at the home of her granddaughter Joan in Akron, Ohio. She was born in Mingo Junction, Ohio on April 21, 1915 a daughter of the late Alfred C. and Bessie A. Buzza Thomas. A longtime member of LaBelle View Church of Christ in Steubenville, Margaret was now a member at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church in Rocky Mount, VA. She retired in 1979 as chief deputy clerk of Steubenville Municipal Court. Margaret was preceded in death by her first husband Joseph J. Kane on June 7, 1964; second husband Clifford R. “Kip” Smith on December 1, 1993 and one sister. Surviving are two daughters Donna J. Wilson of Bassett, VA and Patricia Rockwell of Moneta, VA; eight grandchildren Charles “Gene” Rockwell, Beth Balazik, James Rockwell, Brenda J. Wilson, Joan A. Busic, David Rockwell, M. Jane Robertson and Cynthia Rockwell; nine great grandchildren Nikki Rockwell, Billy Rockwell, Kristen Stainback, Jessica Stainback, Devin Rockwell, Cody Rockwell, Scott Busic, Lynne Busic and Shawna Barbour; four stepgrandchildren and several step great grandchildren.
