Margaret Ann Kettlewell, of Wintersville, OH, died on February 7, 2013 at Sienna Wood Nursing Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Margaret Ann was born in McMechen, WV, on January 28, 1929 to Yaunce and Martha (Bode) Tribett. She is preceded in death by both her parents, and her husband, Robert Kettlewell, whom she married after they both graduated from West Virginia University (WVU). She attended Benwood Union High School in Benwood, WV where she served as drum majorette. Margaret Ann graduated from WVU with a library science degree, and she remained a life-long Mountaineer. She began her career in education as an English teacher at Wheeling High School. She and her husband then moved to Wintersville, where they raised their three sons, Larry, Terry, and David. She spent most of her career as the librarian at Buchanan Junior High until she retired to spend more time with her grandchildren. After retirement, she served on Indian Creek’s School Board for 12 years. In 2009, she was awarded Wintersville Citizen of the Year for the devotion she displayed to both her community and the school district. She was an active member of Brentwood United Methodist Church. She is survived by her three sons, Dr. Larry and Michelle Kettlewell of Wheeling, Terry and Edi of Bloomingdale, and David of Columbus; her 3 grandchildren, Dr. Erin Kettlewell and her husband Matt Wells of Unionport, Tom Kettlewell of Lewisburg, and Tyler Kettlewell of Wheeling; 2 great grandchildren, whom she adored, Liam and Fiona Wells of Unionport; 2 step-grandchildren, Dr. Rob and Courtney Moore of Cleveland and Melissa Williams of Bloomingdale; 3 step great grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, and Johnny Wood; and one step great-great grandchild, Cameron Wood. Her grandchildren were extremely important to her, and she often referred to them as “the loves of her life”. She was their biggest cheerleader in all of their endeavors. Margaret Ann’s favorite past time was traveling the globe, and New York City and the Smokey Mountains were two of her favorite destinations. She loved gardening and enjoyed spending time on her back porch drinking coffee and admiring her flowers. She was outspoken yet kind, gracious, generous, and devoted to her family and friends, and she will be missed by them and all who knew her. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd., Wintersville on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service 2 p.m. with Rev. Bill Westling officiating. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, WV.In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Indian Creek High School Band.

To the Kettlewell Family, My thoughts and prayers are with you. Margaret Ann was first my teacher, then my colleague, but always my friend! In addition to her family, friends and her beloved dogs, Indian Creek was her love. She will be missed but never forgotten for all her contributions.

May her family take comfort in that Mrs Kettlewell led a long and productive life. I did not realize until later in my life how wise she was. I used to argue with her and I wish I could have told her that in retrospect she was usually right.

Dear Kettlewell Family, Your mother was one of the first to befriend me when I began teaching at Buchanan. I loved her frankness. Yet, there was also a soft side to her. She was a great lady who will definitely be missed. Please accept my sincere sympathy.
