Mary Virginia Moores 91 of Wintersville, OH died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002 at Gables Care Center, Hopedale, OH. She was born in Center Chapel, Jefferson County on May 29, 1910 the daughter of the late Joshua and Blanche Smyth Moores. Preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Earl Moores and three sisters, Florence and Martha Moores and Luella Miller. She attended Wintersville Elementary School and graduated from Steubenville High School. She graduated from Kent State University and started her teaching career at Center Chapel and Pleasant Hill Schools. In 1938 she was employed as a first grade teacher in Wintersville Elementary School. In 1942 she was a primary teacher at Buena Vista School and principal there for 28 years, retiring in 1971 with a teaching career of 41 years. After retiring she entered the Vista program and was stationed in Arizona, working with Indian Children. She returned here and taught 6 years in the pre school Christian nursery school. Member of Wintersville United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women and Kindlers missionary society, where she served as superintendent of Sunday School for many years. Member of Jefferson County Retired Teachers and Delta Kappa Gamma society international. Life member of Ohio Retired Teachers Association and Jefferson County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. Board member of Martha Manor, and organized the first United Ostomy Association locally. She also helped organize and was first President of Wintersville Civic Club. Member of Order of Eastern Star LaBelle Chapter #414 and served as a volunteer at former Ohio Valley Hospital. Sister-in-law Blanche Moores of Wintersville, OH Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, OH on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. Rev.
