Lottie Miller Garvin 96 of Steubenville, Ohio died Sunday, December 14, 2003 at Trinity West. She was born in Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania on March 14, 1907 a daughter of the late Robert Hemlup and Lottie Todd Simon Miller, Sr. She was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church and Steubenville Art Association. For the first half of her life, Mrs. Garvin was a stay-at-home Mother. After her husband died, she turned to her life-long artistic talent and became a noted local artist. She was a sought-after portrait artist. She won many awards and ribbons and her paintings hang in most prominent businesses and many private homes around the area, including the Ohio Governor’s Mansion. Lottie was preceded in death by her husband James Rupert Garvin on November 17, 1962; one son 1st Lt. Robert Miller Garvin in 1951 and three brothers H. Payne Miller, Robert H. “Buzz” Miller, Jr. and David P. Miller. Surviving are three sons W. Lawrence Garvin of Orcas Island, WA, James Todd Garvin of Billerica, MA, and Phillip Craig Garvin of Steubenville; three granddaughters; two great grandsons and one sister Mary E. “Bess” Miller of Steubenville. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Saturday 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where services will be held on Monday, December 22, 2003 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Marian S. Mazgaj officiating. Burial at Union Cemetery, Steubenville, Ohio.
