Lillian Merrick Haines 85 of Darien, Georgia, formerly of Wintersville, Ohio died Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at Southeast Georgia Health System, Brunswick, Georgia. She was born in Steubenville, Ohio on July 7, 1918 a daughter of the late Peter and Sarah Visnich Merrick. Lillian was a retired secretary from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. and was a member of Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church and Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her first husband Eli Malbasa; three brothers George, Michael and Peter Merrick and six sisters Jennie Zatezalo, Minnie Krnich, Mildred Medich, Mary, Daisy and Maria Merrick. Surviving are her husband Howard M. “Bud” Haines; son Joseph (Nita) Malbasa of Darien, Georgia; and two granddaughters Dr. Danielle (Cameron) Rose of Mooresville, NC and Brywn (Ben) Philips of Jacksonville, FL. Friends may call at Holy Resurrection Serbian Church, 530 N. Fourth Street, Steubenville, Ohio on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until time of services at 12:30 p.m. with Very Rev. Rade Merick officiating.
