Obituary For Lawrence R. Gongaware

Lawrence R. “Smokey” Gongaware, 77, of Wintersville passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Valley Hospice. He was born in McKeesport, PA on May 8, 1940 a son of the late Russell and Florence Lund Gongaware. Lawrence retired in 1998 from The Sammis Plant, Ohio Edison after 38 years of service and was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam. He was a member of American Legion Post 557, Wintersville and the V.F.W. He enjoyed hunting, the outdoors, fishing at his lake house in Virginia, his motorcycle, his music and being with friends and family. He was a 1958 graduate of Wintersville High School and had attended both the College of Steubenville and Ohio State University. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Lawrence Gongaware; brother Russell Gongaware and niece Laura Barnes. Lawrence is survived by his sister Susan (Bruce) Conaway of Lisbon, OH; nephew Lance (Melissa) Conaway; great nieces LaLa and Lilly Conaway and Lindsay Keating and great great niece Adalynn Ours. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd., Wintersville, OH on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Mark Gilliam officiating. He will be greatly missed by family and numerous friends. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Salvation Army or American Legion Post 557. Offer Condolences at www.shorac.com.
