Laura P. Thompson, 86, died Friday, April 11, 2014, in Sarasota, Florida. She was born November 18, 1927, in Steubenville, OH the daughter of the late Jesse and Pauline Sticker. Laura married Lawrence L. “Boogie” Thompson on July 14, 1967, in Wildwood, New Jersey. He preceded her in death in January of this year and a sister Shirley. Laura grew up in Wintersville and graduated from Wintersville High School. She had a love of horses, and played trombone in the high school band. Many of her fondest memories of her youth were the vacations her family spent on the New Jersey shore. Throughout her life, Laura always called Wintersville home.Her family left the Ohio Valley in 1969, when her husband took a position with Ford Motor Company. They lived in Monroe, Michigan for 30 years, retiring to Sarasota for the last 14 years of their lives. They enjoyed the sun and swimming every day of their retirement.She is survived by three sons Fred Fisher of Sarasota, FL, Larry (Rose) Thompson of Monroe, MI, and David (Monica) Thompson of Oceanside, CA; two daughters Cathy Thompson of Southeast MI, and Sally (Michael) Lamb of Greenbrier, TN; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild; sister Dolores (Bill) Houser of Wintersville, OH and a brother Robert (Cindy) Sticker of Cumming, GA.Funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Steuben Burial Estates Chapel. Rev. Bill Westling officiating. The family asks that in lieu of flowers or donations, you simply keep the family in your thoughts and prayers. Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, Wintersville, is handling local arrangements.
