Laura K. Mesaros, M.D., 89, of Steubenville, Ohio died Saturday afternoon, February 11, 2006 at her residence. She was born July 15, 1916 in Newberry, Michigan, a daughter of the late William and Ella Leppala Kronquist. Dr. Laura retired as a physician in 1991 after 50 years of practice, 42 of those years in Steubenville. Her husband and medical partner, Paul Mesaros, M.D., whom she married November 13, 1943, preceded her in death on December 17, 1998. Dr. Laura graduated from Newberry High School in 1934, received her B.S. degree from Michigan State University in 1938 and M.D. degree from the University of Michigan in 1942. She did post graduate work at University Hospital of Cleveland, St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown and St. Joseph Hospital in Memphis. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Steubenville, Ohio State Medical Association, Jefferson County Medical Society, Steubenville Art Association, Marriott Park Association of Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, Cleveland Museum of Art, Heritage Club of West Virginia Medical School, Irwin Stewart Society of WVU, Ladies Oriental Shrine of N.A (Isis Court) in Wheeling, Alpha Omicron Pi National Sorority, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 364, Archives of American Art in Washington, D.C., American Federation of Arts in New York City. Dr. Laura served as past president of the former Ohio Valley Hospital Medical Staff and its Board of Trustees. Surviving are her brother-in-law A.J. Mesaros, D.D.S. of Weirton, WV, nephew Colonel A.J. Mesaros and cousin Per Erik Kronquist. Per Dr. Laura’s request, private entombment will be held at Union Cemetery in Steubenville, Ohio. Along with her husband, Dr. Paul Mesaros, she was a patron of the Arts and established various endowments.
