Laura J. Barnett, 87, of Toronto, Ohio formerly of Wintersville died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Trinity West. She was born in Steubenville, OH on March 16, 1921 a daughter of the late Harry and Mae Yocum Davitt. She was Presbyterian by faith and sang for several years in the choir at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church. Laura was the treasurer of Sans Pariel Lodge, Auxiliary of United Transportation Union. Over the years she was a member of many bowling teams where she had lots of fun. Her favorite times were spent with her lively, loving family. During the late 50’s and through the 60’s Laura and her husband owned and operated Barnett’s Grocery in Wintersville. She then worked in customer service at Big Bear, from where she retired. Preceding Laura in death was her husband George S. “Bud” Barnett; brother Dick and sisters Marie, Althea and Alice. Surviving are her sons George (Debby) Barnett and Bruce (Susan) Barnett; daughters Dee Dee (Kent) Higgins and Sherrie Martin; eight grandchildren Traci, Jeff, D’Ann and Buddy Barnett, Amy and Beth Higgins, Brittnie Smith and Emily Martin; two great grandchildren Isaiah and Isabelle Kemper; brothers Harry of Delaware and Steve of Louisiana and special niece Patricia Bethel of Centerville. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Monday 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m. where a service will be held Tuesday 10 a.m. with Rev. Thomas Bullard officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben.
