I can not imagine the sadness and loss Kurt's passing has brought to his family and close friends. I am a mother of one of his numerous kids he coached and feel a huge void with his death. He was incredibly knowledgeable of volleyball and gave selflessly of his talent. My daughter would never be the player she is without him in her life! You will forever be missed! May you continue live in my daughter's love of the sport.

I will forever remember Kurt for his unwavering support and friendship. He was, and his memory will continue to be, a light in my life. He managed the ups and downs with such grace, humility and strength. I will always cherish his visit on November 17, 2022 during his cross-country road trip. He gave me and my twin sister our first hug from a friend, in the nearly 3 years since COVID began, and the last hug from this gentle giant. To say his hug and visit was a gift would be an understatement. This past Friday, shortly after I learned of Kurt's passing, I went outside to feel the sun on my face while I had a good cry and listened to the birds. I used the Sound ID in the Merlin app and there was only one bird at the time...Bushtit. Yes, funny name but beautiful bird and is rarely here + there are typically other birds...this time it was just the one. So I looked up what it might have meant and this line stuck out to me, "These feathered friends can also teach us valuable lessons about maintaining balance and harmony in our lives." Kurt was the master of living that balance and encouraging others to do the same.He was simply incredible and I am forever grateful and better for having had the honor of his friendship. He will always hold a special place in my heart, as will his family for being his communications liasons. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Heather, Karen and Karlie. May you all be at peace knowing Kurt is loved by so many and his memory will live on. A donation in his memory has been made to the Melanoma Research Foundation.

Terri and I offer our sincere condolences for the passing of our friend, Kurt.Kurt's friendship on and off the golf course will be greatly missed. I've spent the past few days aware of his absence. I'm frequently reminded of Kurt when I enter the YMCA where he patiently and energetically taught and coached young aspiring volleyball players, when I walk onto a golf course where we shared many fun competitive rounds and when I spend quality time with my own family. Kurt expressed in many ways his pride, love, commitment and appreciation for his family before and during his struggle with cancer. And at the end of his life, I witnessed the beautiful and enduring love and care his family gave to him during his final days.I will miss my time with my friend. May you rest in peace,Bill and Terri DiPiero

Kurt was a bright light in many people's lives. He was a work friend who made lunches a time to laugh and relax, a teammate who made each VB match or softball game more fun, and perhaps most importantly, the glue for so many friendships that would have faded as time and physical distance took us in different directions. His kindness, strength, and zest for life touched all of us. Rest in peace, my friend.

Kurt was kind enough to provide VIP tickets to the Cleveland air show for our son Alan and his friends Dexter and Kaleb. Their faces lit up watching the harrier do tricks right in front of us.Then he took the boys to meet and get pictures with the Blue Angels. This experience added to Alan's love of flying and inspired him to get his private pilots license. Thanks Kurt! We will miss you!

A group of us met at Western & Southern and did everything together. Softball, basketball, socializing and events such as going to Chicago for Reds games. We even created our private Joey basketball league. We became very tight and came to call ourselves Joey's.After 8 or 10 years people slowly started leaving Western & Southern for work at various venues. Usually, as people move to new jobs and have children their old friendships fade. Kurt had no intention of losing touch with his Joey family. He created Joey Christmas. He created The Joey Cup Golf Outing. He drove hours out of his way to have lunch or to play golf. Kurt was the glue to the Joey's. Kurt made me a better person and made my life better by being my friend. I will never forget you my Joey BrotherSteve
