Katherine M. “Kay” McGurn, 93, of Wintersville, Ohio, formerly of Hopewell Junction, NY and Poultney, VT, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018 at Carriage Inn of Steubenville. She was born November 28, 1924 in Poultney a daughter of the late Mikolas & Pauline Murco Maslack. Kay was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church in Hopewell Junction and the Altar Rosary Society. She was a fierce advocate for those she loved, urging them to put their God given talents to use and teaching them to think of others. She worked hard raising a family and loved to bake but she also worked outside the home in department stores and real estate. Strong in faith from an early age, she maintained an optimistic view of people and life situations. She shared her faith with anyone around her and made it her mission to engage others in a conversation about it. She and her husband loved their extended family too and took active roles raising two of their grandchildren to ensure a good foundation for them as well. Preceding Kay in death were her husband Joseph Patrick McGurn, Jr. and daughter Kathy McGurn.
Kay is survived by her sons Joe (Ana) McGurn of Wintersville and Kevin (April) McGurn of Chicago, IL; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; siblings Frank, Mike & Phil Maslack and Paula (Bob) McNutt; and sister-in-law Priscilla Maslack.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Aunt Katy and and your family. Katy and her sister, Josephine were two peas in a pod - intensely loyal, deeply religious, and unconditionally loving to family and kin. We have never forgotten her generosity and warmth. Katy was a touchstone and pillar of strength for all she came in contact with. We know she is finally and irretrievably with God. We will always remember her.John & Pamela VeyseyPepperell, MA

Aunt Kay was the beloved sister of our mother, Josephine, and a strength to our family. She made the beautiful gowns for my first "real" doll including a bridal dress. That was 65 years ago and is still a treasured memory. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May your friends and family bring you solace and your memories sustain you.Mary Veysey Nelson
