Katherine “Granny” Corwin, 89, of Wintersville, Ohio joined our Lord and Savior on September 22, 2004. Preceding her in death are her parents, Arthur VanTassel and Maude Brabender VanTassel of Hudson, New York; two brothers, Charles and Arthur VanTassel; her beloved husband, David W. Corwin, a former lawyer and District Attorney in Ulster County, N.Y. Katherine, better known as “Granny”; is survived by a son, Colonel Arthur J. Corwin USAF retired; a daughter-in-law, Cris Corwin and a grandson Arthur Jr. of Durham N.C. One daughter, Carol Otis; her husband, Dana Otis of Wintersville, OH and two granddaughters, Capt. Jaimee Summers; and her husband Capt. Marc Summers of Spokane WA; and Major Jacqueline Breeden, her husband Jason and their two daughters Josette and Jenna of Dover DE. Katherine was valedictorian of the 1939 graduating class of New Paltz State Teachers College. She is a retired teacher, a retired legal secretary, member of Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary in New Paltz N.Y. She is a previous member of the Dutch Reform Church of New Paltz N.Y. and a present member of the Brentwood United Methodist Church of Wintersville OH. Katherine was also a member of the United Methodist Women of Brentwood Methodist Church and the local chapter of Aglow. She was a graduate student in the theology program at the University of Steubenville. Katherine was a loyal supporter of the Jefferson County 4-H programs and the Indian Creek School District “Odyssey of the Mind” Program. Katherine loved and treasured every moment with her family and friends. We all treasure our memories of Katherine. May the Lord bless her and keep her under his tender, watchful care. Visiting hours will be held at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Friday September 24th from 2-4 P.M. and 7-9 P.M. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend David Martin officiating. Katherine will be laid to rest beside her husband at the New Paltz Rural Cemetery on Monday September 27th, 2004 at 1 p.m.
