Obituary For Julia Crossley

Julia (Morrison) Crossley of Toronto, Ohio, age 91, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on September 2, 2024 at the home of her daughter in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. She was born June 27, 1933 in Steubenville, Ohio to the late George and Katherine Yocum Morrison.

She married the love of her life, James Alexander Crossley, 68 years ago on April 9, 1956.

She is survived by her husband, James, her daughter, Katherine Jean Crossley Merideth (late Robert Merideth), daughter-in-law, Susan Mularski Crossley, five grandchildren, Jessica Merideth (Chris Shane) of Biglerville, PA, Sean Crossley of Oakdale, PA, Heather Crossley Smee (Ben Smee) of Mt. Lebanon, PA, Brian Crossley (Kasey Walls) of McDonald, PA, and Hunter Merideth of Shippensburg, PA, nine great grandchildren, Landon, Harper, and Emma Shane, Margaret, Lauren, and Anne Smee, and Tessa, James, and Casey Crossley. Julia is predeceased by her parents, her son, James Crossley, Jr., her son-in-law Robert Merideth, and daughter-in-law, Lauren Hollister Crossley.

In 1951 Julia graduated from Steubenville High School, she went on to further her commitment to education by attending Bethany College and graduating from Franciscan University of Steubenville. She was a life member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ for 78 years, where she served as a deacon, an elder and secretary of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was a member of LaBelle Chapter Order of the Eastern Stars for 78 years, affiliated with the Unionport Chapter.

Julia was committed to her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Known as “Nan” to those closest to her. Nan enjoyed the beach and was especially fond of Bethany Beach, Delaware, where she spent many summers as a young child and carried on the tradition by making memories with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid historian and loved genealogy. Nan was most proud of her Scottish Heritage, loved any music that involved bagpipes, and made the best Scottish Shortbread. She was equally proud to be born and raised by her family in the Ohio Valley. She loved shopping and was often seen in the classiest outfits with matching accessories. Although Nan was petite in stature with the sweetest demeanor, she also could be strong-willed, fun-loving and feisty when she was comfortable. She will be remembered for her deep commitment to her faith and family and will be deeply missed by all that love her.
