Obituary For Joseph "Smo" Matello

Joseph “Smo” Matello, 65, formerly of Mingo Junction, Ohio, passed away on August 23, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. Joe was born on March 31, 1953 to the late John “Magpie” and Josephine Matello. He graduated from Avella High School and retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel.

Surviving are his nine brothers and sisters, Barbara (Joe) Mullen of Pittsburgh, PA, John (Barb) of Wintersville, OH, Tom of Steubenville, Patty (Harry) Helmick of Vienna, WV, Matt (Sandy) of Bloomingdale, OH, Larry of Douglasville, GA, Nina (Greg) Hellock of Mingo Junction, Nancy (Tony) Ambrogio of Pittsburgh, and Chris (Becky) of Woodstock, GA. Also surviving is Joe’s son Jason and granddaughter, Hailey, both of Mingo Junction.

Memorial Services on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the American Cancer Society.
