Joseph M. Valerio, Sr., 97, of Steubenville passed away on Monday, May 2, 2022 at Sienna Skilled Care. He was born in Steubenville on November 11, 1924 a son of the late Emidio and Lucia Lupone Valerio. He was a member of Triumph of the Cross Catholic Church and a 1949 graduate of Ohio State University earning an Electrical Engineering degree. He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, where he was a supervisor in the electrical department. Joseph was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Seabees.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Rose E. Madama Valerio; brothers John and Anthony Valerio; sisters Mafalda Spargo, Anna Mary D’Andrea and Laura DiFillipo.
Joseph is survived by his children Joseph M. (Donna) Valerio, Jr., Lorraine (Jack) Zwierzewicz, Thomas M.(Darlene) Valerio, Joyce Marie Mattioli, Lucia (Michael) Channels, Laurie A. (Jared) Watkins and James A. Valerio; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, on Friday from 4 – 7 p.m. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church with Rev. Thomas Nau officiating. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Vigil services 3:45 p.m. Friday
Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct honors at the cemetery.
