Obituary For John W. "Big Andy" Anderson

John W. “Big Andy” Anderson, 77 of Steubenville, Ohio died Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Trinity West. He was born February 3, 1941 in Steubenville a son of the late John E. & Margaret May Anderson. He retired from Weirton Steel Co. Big Andy was a 1959 graduate of Steubenville High School where he was a member of the All State football team. He went on to play at the University of Cincinnati and for the Wheeling Ironmen. Big Andy was a friend and fan of NBA player Oscar Robertson from his days in Cincinnati. Preceding Big Andy in death were his wife Joan L. Montgomery Anderson and brother James J. Anderson.

Big Andy had a strong compassion for animals.

He is survived by a cousin Rhoda Tempest; niece Kara (Jamie) Gigliotti; and nephew Derek Anderson. He will also be sadly missed by many, many friends but not the parking meters in Steubenville.

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Thursday from 10 a.m. until noon.

Burial at Fort Steuben.

Memorials may be directed to John W. Anderson Scholarship Fund c/o Steubenville High School or Jefferson Co. Humane Soc

    Big Andy, your are "The Man". Always easy to talk with....loved sports.....He and I would talk about Cincinnati since I went to Xavier and he UC....Will be missed...always in my prayers..Joe Abramowicz

    I will remember all the good times working together at Weirton, going to allot football games,eating at some very good restaurants when we traveled, and just being my friend. God bless you and your family.

    Friends for 66 yrs,I was 8yrs old playing with Andy on the Little League Dodgers,he was 12 yrs old. He was our big brother and body guard ,nobody messed with us little guys. I was hot tempered ,and he would settle me down when I got testy. From those days on he was always a concerned about me,great friend. I loved him for taking care of me when I was so young. Rest in peace great friend,see you pretty soon,look forward to pitching ball with you again,,love,,SAM FORNSAGLIO.

    The kindest, sweetest guy who would go out of his way to help a stranger.you would crack us up down at joes Sausage shop. Man Sauce would get hot when you kiddingly call his meatballs Canceburgers. Your the last of the Mohicans,Ill always remember your kindness and the sense of humor.
