John R. Valuska 72 of Wintersville, Ohio died Monday, June 7, 2004 at his home of natural causes. He was born in Mingo Junction, Ohio on June 27, 1931 a son of the late John and Anna Baly Valuska. John was the retired owner and operator of Valuska Insurance Agency; past president of the former Mingo National Bank and retired from National City Bank, Steubenville. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ; Masonic Lodge 45 F&AM; Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville; and Steubenville Shrine Club. He served as past president of former Mingo Kiwanis Club; member and past president of Mingo Lions Club and former member of Steubenville Country Club. John was a member of P.B.U. (Presbyterian Beneficial Union) and graduated from Columbia University where he was a member of the football and golf teams and Sigma Chi Fraternity. John was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He was preceded in death by a brother Thomas M. Valuska. John is survived by his wife Shirley J. Thomas Valuska, whom he married on June 27, 1953; daughters Karen (C. Michael) Mathis of Miamisburg, Ohio, Kathy (Michael) Maguschak of Mingo Junction, and Kimberlee (John) Stokley of Alliance, Ohio; son Thomas (Kelly) Valuska of Smithfield, Ohio; three grandchildren Benjamin Mathis, Caitlin Mathis and Megan Valuska; brothers Dr. James (Evelyn) Valuska of Steubenville, Dr. David (Charlotte) Valuska of Kutztown, PA and Kenneth (Paula) Valuska of Toledo, Ohio; and one sister Joanne (James) Gorney of Mingo Junction. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Wednesday 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday with Rev. P. Douglas George officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben Burial Estates. Lions Club services 7 p.m. Wednesday Masonic services 8 p.m. Wednesday Memorials may be directed to Valley Hospice, Inc.
