John Parfenick Jr., 75 of Wintersville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, August 15, 2026. He was born January 28, 1951 to the late John Parfenick Sr. and Julianna “Dolly” Cregut Parfenick whom he loved very much. He was a graduate of Mingo High School, Class of 1969, and was employed by Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp. as a brick layer and worked alongside his father and then until his retirement.

John loved fishing, earning the nickname “Catfish,” as well as hunting with his father, later passing those skills onto his grandchildren.

He was very athletic in his younger years playing football and was a very good baseball player, still holding the record for the most home run hits (5) in a single game in Mingo Fields in the 1960s.

John adored and cherished his beloved wife Donna and enjoyed being totally in love and blessed to spend many happy years together.

He was a wonderful father and grandfather, and a beloved brother, leaving behind many precious memories.

John is survived and will be sadly missed by his loving wife Donna Darrah Parfenick and sister Sherri L. Parfenick Vella and her husband Louis F. Vella Jr. of Mingo Jct., two children Harry E. “Bucky” (Kellie) Brockway of Arizona and Jeannie L. (Robert) Brockway Dyer of Georgia and 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and three sister-in-laws and two brother-in-laws and families, all of whom will forever love and miss him. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant grandson Justin, in-laws Eva Jones of Columbus, Ohio and Arthur & Marty Darrah of Oklahoma.

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Tuesday from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. where services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jason Elliott officiating. Burial at Oakland Cemetery.
