John M. Mavromatis, 79, of Bloomingdale, Ohio, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Dixon Health Care Center. He was born July 7, 1939 in Steubenville, Ohio, the son of the late Michael J. and Agnes A. Kliner Mavromatis. Preceded also in death by his lifelong companion Mary E. Saho and sister Donna Marie Stroyls. John retired from the Steubenville Labor Local 809 and held church membership at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Wintersville. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter and served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law George and Jean Ann Mavromatis of Toronto, sister Sarah Ann Mavromatis and her companion Walter Persuitti and his aunts, several nieces and cousins. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated on Friday 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Msgr. Kurt Kemo officiating. Vigil service 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Burial will follow at Fort Steuben. The family would like to thank Pat and Margaret for the exceptional home care given to John and the Dixon Health Care Center and Amedisys Hospice.
