John Kelsey Mackey, 89, of Bluffton, Ohio formerly of Wintersville, Ohio passed away Sunday October 8, 2006. He was born December 21, 1916 in Bellaire, Ohio a son of the late Harry F. and Mazie Baer Mackey. John Kelsey spent most of his time growing up in Brilliant and Deandale, Ohio. He later moved to Wintersville with his wife Martha to raise their family. They were members of the Wintersville United Methodist Church. John Kelsey is retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel where he started working at the age of 20. After being called into the service on January 8, 1942, he served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Later he and his wife Martha would travel over the U.S. to his Army reunions. They owned a farm in Richmond Ohio, which he farmed for many years while still working at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel. John is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Laura Martha Speedy Mackey; first wife Royal Hanson Mackey; an infant son; two brothers Wallace and Harry James "Jr." Mackey; and three sisters Frances Elizabeth, Mary Ethel and Helen Margaret. He is survived by his son John W. (Julie) Mackey of Bluffton, Ohio; daughter Sally (Lee) Begin, of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren whom he adored, granddaughters Laura (Greg) Hartzler and Amy (Phillip) Blount; grandson John Benjamin Mackey all of Bluffton, Ohio and grandson Kelsey Lee Begin of Columbus, Ohio; great grandson Benjamin James Hartzler of Bluffton, Ohio; and sister Birdie Virginia Mackey Grubb of Brilliant, Ohio; two sister-in- laws Lena Hill of Richmond and Columbus, Ohio and Charlotte (Albert) Smith of Kent, Ohio; and also many cousins, nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd., Wintersville on Tuesday 6 - 9 p.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wintersville United Methodist Church with Rev. Clint Quillen officiating. Visitation ½ hour prior to the services at the church. Burial at Fort Steuben. Memorial contributions to Wintersville United Methodist Church.
