John J. Sweeney, 84, of Bloomingdale, Ohio passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at his home. He was born April 20, 1928 in Steubenville, Ohio a son of the late Daniel R and Clarice McCullough Sweeney. John was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church. He served in the US Army during WW II and retired from State of Ohio Tax Department as a tax examiner. The joy of John’s life was his grandchildren and he devoted his time to attending their activities. John was preceded in death by his brother Daniel R. Sweeney and an infant brother. Surviving are his wife Elizabeth I. Young Sweeney; children Jeffrey (Diane) Sweeney of Hopedale, OH, Deborah (James) Kuyznski of Bloomingdale, OH, Karen (Richard) DeStefanis of Hopedale, OH, Kevin (Carla) Sweeney of Wintersville, OH and Theresa Sweeney of Wintersville, OH; seven grandchildren; two great granddaughters and two nephews. Private services were held today at Dunlope - Shorac Funeral Home, Wintersville with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery where Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad performed military honors.
