Obituary For John Hritz

John Hritz, 91, of Wintersville, Ohio, went to heaven on Sunday, April 22, 2012.  John was born September 29, 1920 in Steubenville a son of the late Alex and Julia Woyansky Hritz.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters Helen Hritz Kusma, Anne Hritz and Margaret Hritz Holland; brother Michael Hritz and half-brother Steve Mastavayvo.  John graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1937 and served in the U.S Air Force during WWII and the Korean War.  John was a proud member of American Legion Post 557, Veterans of Foreign Wars and St. Andrew Orthodox Church, Mingo Junction, OH.  Before his retirement in 1982 he worked for American General Life Insurance Company.  He was a Cross Creek Township Trustee for many years.  One of his proudest accomplishments as trustee was getting a sidewalk built along route 22 from Wintersville High School to the State Highway Patrol barracks for the junior and senior high school students to walk back and forth to school.  The walkway bears his name.  John is survived by his wife of 65 years Mabel Newburn Hritz; three children John A. Hritz of Marion, OH, Paul (Susan) Hritz of Seven Fields, PA and Tamara Hritz Dye of Westerville, OH; sister Mary Jane (Albert) McMunn of Cleveland, OH; half-sister Julia Mastavayvo Swan of Almond, WI; grandchildren John Paul Hritz of Atlanta, GA, Dawn (Chris) Marshall of Indianapolis, IN, Tiffany (Nick) Koehler of Galena, OH, Erica Dye of Westerville, OH, Natalie and Julianna Hritz, both of Mars, PA.  Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd., Wintersville, OH on Tuesday 1-4p.m. and also on Wednesday from 9a.m. until time of services 10a.m. with Fr. John Kopcha officiating.  Burial at Fort Steuben Burial Estates.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: St. Andrew Orthodox Church, 100 Summit Ave., Mingo Junction, OH 43938. Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct graveside services.

    To Tamara and family, My sincere condolences on the passing of Mr. Hritz. He truly was a dedicated public official for Cross Creek Township. It was an honor to work for him years ago. My prayers are with you.
