John E. Oliver, Jr., 73, of Wintersville, Ohio died Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at his residence. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio on January 30, 1933 the son of the late John E. and Harriet R. Yates Oliver, Sr. He was a 1951 graduate of Steubenville High School. In 1967, John founded Oliver Pool & Spa, Inc. in Wintersville. He also retired as a metallurgist from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. John was an elder at Community of Christ in Wellsburg, WV and former pastor of Morristown Mission. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Preceding John in death on May 24, 2000 was his wife Beverly J. Weintraub Oliver. Surviving are his son John E. (Sheila) Oliver III of Steubenville; daughters Romaine (Bill) Gunion of Richmond, OH, Lavonne (Joe) Settimio of Isle of Palms, SC, and Shirley (Ron) Gunion of Wintersville; companion Gwendolyn Mae Collin with whom he resided; five grandchildren John E. Oliver IV, Jennifer Mason, and Billy, Adam and Leslie Gunion; two sisters Shirley Oliver of Erie, PA and Eileen Evans of Steubenville. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Friday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.; where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with Elder Neil Nixon and Elder Steve Nixon presiding. Entombment at Fort Steuben Memorials may be directed to Wellsburg Community of Christ
