John E. Hibbits, 79, of Wintersville, Ohio, died Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Trinity West. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio on May 20, 1936 the son of the late Robert G. and Florence Diekmann Hibbits. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Betty L. Hill Hibbits; daughter Lisa Jane Hibbits; son-in-law Stanley Yakemawiz and two brothers Robert Jr. and James Hibbits. John retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co. as a pipefitter and was a past elder and member of Two Ridges Presbyterian Church; graduate of Wintersville High School class of 1955; served in the U.S. Navy and member of the Naval Mine Warfare Association; faithful donor and recipient of the ten gallon pin from American Red Cross. John is survived by his son Brian (Janie), daughter Traci Yakemawiz both of Wintersville; four grandchildren Shannon (Josh) Sciarra, Kelly (Erik) Miller, Dylan and Brianna Hibbits; great-granddaughter Alanna Miller; two brothers Robert G. III and Thomas (Brenda) Hibbits both of Texas; and sister-in-law Carol Hibbits of Hopedale. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Tuesday from 4 – 7 p.m., where funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Bill Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Steuben Burial Estates where full military honors will be accorded by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
