John C. “Big John” Crawford, 76, of Steubenville died Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Trinity West. He was born August 19, 1942 in Steubenville the son of the late Aaron M. and Elizabeth M. Sweeney Crawford. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law John Stoll. John retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co. as a motor inspector and held church membership at Holy Family Catholic Church. He was a member of Mingo Sportsman Club, Wintersville American Legion #557, graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central Class of 1960 and served his country in the US Navy aboard the ship USS MCKEAN during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife Marilyn J. Compston Crawford at home; their children Tracy (John) Schoolcraft of Weirton, John Aaron (Melissa) Crawford of Mingo Junction, David (Heather) Crawford of Steubenville and Brian (Tracy) Crawford of Hendersonville, TN; six grandchildren Sierra and Brianna Schoolcraft, Aaron (companion Natalie Terenzetti) Crawford, Cayden, Sydnee and Liam Crawford; great grandson Dominic Crawford; sister-in-law Betty Stoll and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Msgr. Gerald Calovini celebrant. Entombment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad. Vigil services 3:45 p.m. Friday.
