John A. “Jack” Sperry, Jr., 77, of Toronto, Ohio, formerly of Steubenville, died Monday, July 31, 2006 at Trinity West. He was born July 20, 1929 in Steubenville a son of the late John A. and M. Grace Anderson Sperry, Sr. He was a 1947 graduate of Steubenville High and served in the US Navy during the Korean War. Jack retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co. as supervisor of the electric machine shop. He was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir for over 60 years. An avid Big Red fan, he was a Big Red Booster Club member. Preceding Jack in death was his grandson Ian LaBuda. Surviving are his wife Sandra E. Miller Sperry, whom he married November 22, 1951; children Janice (Pete) Stefansky of Weirton, Karen (John) LaBuda of Empire, Christine (Larry) Hunt with whom he resided and Jon (Darlene) Sperry of Stratton; nine grandchildren Peter (Marion) Stefansky, Sonya & Brianna Stefansky, Deanna LaBuda, Aaron “A.J.”, Sheena & Brittany Hunt, Jennifer & Jon “B.J.” Sperry II; siblings Martha (Edward) Kalifut and Richard “Dick” (Ruth) Sperry all of Steubenville; sister-in-law Betty Boyd of Cranberry Twp., PA.; and best friend “Baby”. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home in Wintersville on Thursday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. at St. Stephens Church with Rev. Fr. Marian Mazgaj officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donors choice.
