I was deeply saddened to hear of Joel's passing. Not only was he a wonderful person, but also quite an accomplished modeler!! I've visited his model railroad on numerous occasions over the many years I've known him, and each time I came away impressed with what he had done!! I'll miss seeing and talking to him at our upcoming division meetings and events. My sincere condolences to his wife and family!

He was one of my favorite teachers at JUHS. I had him for numerous years of concert choir. I can picture him on stage as if it happened last night. During lunches we would often do crossword puzzles together waiting for the period to end - to this day I can recall some of the words. He had a great sense of humor and he always kindly tolerated the goofy scenarios that my buddies and I would present him. He was one of those rare teachers that would remember you when you would run into each other many years after school. Until we meet again, Mr. Everly, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

I met Joel about 40 years ago during a National Model Railroad Association tour of his layout. He gave me some ideas about how to operate my layout and we had many good interactions afterward. He was smart, friendly, and helpful.

When I was in grade school, I wanted to join choir but I was terrified I couldn't sing well. I was a sobbing mess. He encouraged me and insisted I just try. I made it into choir! He was the best music teacher and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Everly was my 1st music teacher at Richmond Elementary and he taught me the joy of music. Many of the songs he taught I have shared with my children and grandchildren. He was a jolly kindhearted man! May he rest in peace!

I took piano lessons from Mrs. Everly at their home for a couple of years. One day he took me to his basement where I was stunned. He had an entire city set up around a hobby train track. I will never forget that. It was awesome. So sorry for his wife and daughters. Truly a great guy, you will be missed by many.

Joel will always be remembered as an excellent model railroader. I was fortunate to have been associated with Joel weekly for about twenty eight years as we joined with others in building and running model railroads in the local area. His knowledge of the "Pennsy" was especially thorough, and he was more than willing to go out of his way to help others in their endeavor into modelling. Rest in Peace, Joel.

Mr. Everly was my grade school music teacher at Richmond Elementary (Edison). I was always excited to go to his class and have the most wonderful memories of singing together during class and laughing at his stories. I don't know if it was a tall tale or not, but there was a particularly exciting story he told us about sledding as a young boy and going under a train or a truck (I don't think it was moving, but he built up the story in such an exciting way we were on the edges of our chairs!). Sending love and prayers to his loved ones - he was a wonderful man and brought sunshine to my day anytime I had music class!
