Joe R. DeArdo, Sr., 80, of Wintersville, Ohio died Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Trinity West. He was born August 25, 1934 in Toronto, Ohio a son of the late Richard and Mamie Romano DeArdo. Joe was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He retired from Timet after 38 years of service. Joe joined the Wintersville Volunteer Fire Department in 1975 and remained an advisor and friend of the department until his death. Joe not only served as a firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician with the department but also as the fundraising director for many, many years. He was the architect of a complete financial restructuring of the department that included the development of a bingo program that raised over two million dollars. That fundraising effort enabled the department to purchase the best firefighting and EMS equipment that money could buy and the department continues to benefit to this day from the financial groundwork laid by Joe. Many of the innovative bingo ideas that Joe developed he later shared with other area fire departments and churches to help them in their efforts. Preceding Joe in death were his wife Connie T. DeArdo on November 25, 2006 and a brother Paul DeArdo. Surviving are three sons Joe R. (Denise) DeArdo, Jr., Michael D. DeArdo & Paul E. (Bobbi) DeArdo all of Wintersville, OH; six grandchildren Steven DeArdo of Kent, OH, Megan DeArdo of Pittsburgh, PA and Santino DeArdo, Lucca DeArdo, Zoe Weaver and Kyle Weaver all of Wintersville, OH and one great grandchild. Kurt Kemo officiating. Entombment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Vigil service 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Memorial donations may be directed to Wintersville Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 2448, Wintersville, OH 43953.

My sincere condolence to the family. I grew up with Joe in Toronto I spent many days at his home in the Mill Row. Joe is my oldest son JJ's God Father. I last visited Joe in 2010 when I brought my Mother back to Kentucky from Hawaii to put here to rest beside her Mother. I am so sorry and very sad that I cannot make it back for the services. May God Bless all the family. Peace and Love. Rev. Deacon Jim Bostick
