I have known Joanne since we were classmates at Grant Junior High and Steubenville High School. I currently reside in Chesapeake, VA. She was very active in all girls' sports and was a cheerleader for the football and basketball teams that I played on from 1945-47. In our senior year of high school, after one of our football games, the team was in the locker room preparing to shower. Our coach announced that a cheeleader would be coming into the locker room to be examined by our team doctor due to an injury and we should not remove our uniforms until she had been examined and left the locker room. That cheerleader was our beloved Joanne. At every SHS reunion, I never let her forget that night and used to tell her that she would even fake and injury just to get into our locker room while we preparing to shower. She always laughed and enjoyed remembering that night. But the real truth was that she either broke or dislocated her shoulder during cheering. This is but one of many fond memories I have of Joanne. My condolences go out to Joe and his family in their loss. I shall miss her.
