Joann B. Groves, 69, of Wintersville, Ohio died Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh after a lengthy illness. She was born March 12, 1937 in Cumberland, MD. Joann was a former assistant manager at GNC for 21 years and Catholic by faith. Preceding Joann in death were her mother Edith Barbera Howell; stepfather Frank Howell; grandparents Joe and Rose Barbera; aunts Josephine Lamonto, Rosalie “Lilly” James, Fannie Reall & Theresa Barbera; Uncle Tony and numerous cousins. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Joann loved all her family and made them her life. She was an excellent cook and baker, avid reader and loved doing crossword puzzles. She is survived by her husband of 47 years Gene Groves, whom she married February 21, 1959; two daughters Donna Groves and future husband Bill Gualtiere and Connie Palmeri and her husband John all of Wintersville; one granddaughter (her pride and joy) Kaylie Palmeri; sisters Rita Howell and companion Mary Felton of Chester, Barb Robinson and husband Ray of New Cumberland, Jackie Goodlin and husband Robert of Chester; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bill & Lou Groves of Wintersville, Geraldine Mecannic of Toronto, Carl & Lucille Haught of Reader, WV, Dale & Debbie Salsberry of East Springfield; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home in Wintersville Monday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday with Msgr. Gerald E. Calovini officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben.
