Obituary For Jay Edward Shoemaker

Jay Edward Shoemaker, 93, of Bloomingdale, OH passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025. He was born in Steubenville on July 10, 1931 a son of the late Lena Annette and Clarence Shoemaker.

Jay graduated from Steubenville High School in 1950, then went on to serve two years in the Korean War as a sergeant. Upon returning home he worked at Weirton Lumber until his retirement. Jay married his high school sweetheart Pat Hollis on May 15, 1954.

Jay was an avid fisherman enjoying his trips to Lake Erie and Canada. The Belvedere neighborhood would come alive when the horseshoes would clank in his backyard.

Jay is preceded in death by his beloved wife Pat, sister Alice Bello, son in law George Eddy III and great grandson Nathan Eddy.

Jay is survived by and will be greatly missed by his daughters Denise Eddy and Lisa (Kevin) Miller; grandchildren Jason (Melissa) Eddy, Sara (Kevin Orr) Eddy, Lauren (Dan) Canfield and Kelsey (Mike) Hughart; great grandchildren, Nicholas, Alaina, Evelyn and Olivia.

The family will hold private services at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to: Jefferson County Joint Vocational School, George “Bob” Eddy III Scholarship Fund.

    There was no greater part of my childhood than spending the night/weekend or whatever time with Pat and Jay. They were like second parents. They were perfect examples of a happy couple. I will forever miss them both. RIP Jay.❤️❤️❤️ Lots of love to ALL the family.
