Janice K. Porter of Steubenville, OH entered her Heavenly Home on Thursday, April 13, 2023 with her family by her side. She was born in Steubenville, Ohio on October 24, 1946, a daughter of the late Katherine J. Porter Reed. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a sister, Hester A. Blabac and a nephew, Jayson E. Porter, as well as two brother-in-laws, Mike and Don. Janice is survived by 5 brothers, George C. Porter of St. Clairsville, John W. (Mary) Porter of Ponta Verde, FL, David E. (Audra) Porter of Hopedale, OH, Larry A. (Kim) Reed of Mason, OH and David E. (Rita) Reed of Quarryville, PA, 2 sisters, Ruth L. George of Wintersville, OH and Cathy (Brad) Jenkins of Steubenville, OH, as well as, many nieces and nephews. Family was important to Janice.
Janice didn’t have any children of her own but spent the majority of her life as a caregiver to others. She worked for many years at United Dry Cleaners in Wintersville before retiring to be a full time caregiver to her mother. After the passing of her Mom, Janice looked after “her boys”, Charlie, Jacob and Ethan. They were the light of her life. She was a member of the Wintersville Methodist Church where she would help with Vacation Bible School periodically. She was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and loved spending her Saturdays watching college football. During this last year, she spent afternoons enjoying the sunshine and porch sitting with her friends Rose, Liz, Peggy, and Bob. The family would like to thank the staff of the Country Club Manor for the care of Janice during this past year, especially Doreen with whom she became very close. She was loved and will be missed terribly, especially by her sister, Cathy.
In her memory, contributions may be made to Wintersville Methodist Church - the Nehemiah Project, 702 Main Street, Wintersville, Ohio 43953.
Per Janice’s wishes, private family services will be held at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Clint Quillen officiating.
