Jane M. Sawon of Steubenville, Ohio died Monday, May 13, 2002 at Trinity West, Steubenville, OH. She was born in Steubenville a daughter of the late John Merlonghi and the late Nunziata D'Aurora Merlonghi Daloisi. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Wintersville, OH and its C.W.C.; Sunset Club and the Great American Poetry Club, where she authored over 200 poems. She received honorable mention in the Great American Poetry Contest held in California for her poem "Picture Frame" dedicated to her late husband, and it was published in the Great American Anthology Book of Poets and Poetry. Jane was a retired LPN from the former Dr. McElroy Brookhaven Nursing Home and Clinic, Follansbee, WV after twenty years of service. She was preceeded in death by her husband Anthony J. Sawon, whom she married on March 6, 1943; and an infant son. Surviving are one son Anthony J. (Kitty) Sawon of Spring, TX; one daughter Nancy Jean (Regis) Mieczkowski of Wintersville; one brother Perry (Caroline) Daloisi of Waverly, OH; two sisters Lucy Holdinsky of Mingo Jct., OH and Mary Daloisi of Steubenville; grandchildren James (Brenda) Mieczkowski, Jennifer (Mike) Bloomhuff; and stepgrandchildren Jess (Sandra) Young,David (Lena) Young and Les (Cheri) Young. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Thursday 2-4 & 7-9. Funeral liturgy with mass on Friday 11:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church with Msgr. Gerald E. Calovini officiating. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville, OH. Vigil services 8:45 p.m. Thursday.
