James "Jim" D. Houser, 62, of Wintersville, Ohio, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023, at his home. He was born February 1, 1961, in Steubenville, Ohio.
Jim was the fourth of five children. The oldest son, who had three older sisters, was known to keep them all on their toes.
Married young, he and his high school sweetheart, Lynn, were happily married for over 40 years. Together, they raised three children and were loving grandparents to their four grandchildren.
Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He was brave. He was smart. He was there when others needed him.
Jim grew up with a family of painters. He was an apprentice with Local 438. Early in his painting career, Jim suffered an injury that kept him from painting for a few years. This gap allowed him to teach himself woodworking skills and electronic repair. His wife was patient with his hobbies, particularly when he turned their walk-in closet into a small electronics repair room. Later, he returned to painting and retired in a safety leadership role.
Jim and his wife loved remodeling and renovation projects. They moved walls like some move furniture. It was common for Jim to drive 10 hours from a job site and immediately start working on one of his many home improvement projects.
There wasn’t anything Jim couldn’t do. If he didn’t know how to do something, he taught himself. Truly, he was a jack-of-all-trades and a master of just about anything he tried.
Besides home improvement projects, he and his wife loved terrible horror and sci-fi movies, cooking, and spending time with each other.
Like his wife Lynn, Jim adored his two dogs, Zoey and Lexi. They were his constant companions.
Preceding Jim in death were his wife, Evelyn (Lynn) Houser; father, James F. Houser; two sisters, Pam Pate and Jamie Yaworski; father-in-law, H. Frank Doomy; brother-in-law, Michael Goings.
Surviving are his son Jim (Sarah) Houser; two daughters Melissa “Missy” (Bill) Wasson and Jessica (Zack) Stucky. Four grandchildren, Madison Houser, Tyler Hendrickson, Marshal Houser, and Dylan Wasson; mother, Marian Houser; brother, Robert (Michael Burns) Houser; sister, Robin (Gregg) Clifton; mother-in-law, Sharon Doomy; brothers-in-law, Bill (Candy) Doomy, Frank (Elena) Doomy, John (Lynda) Doomy, Alva (Joy) Doomy; sister-in-law, Pam Goings, as well as many cousins nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Friday from 2 pm -4 pm and 6 pm -8 pm where services will be held Saturday at 10 am with his brother-in-law Pastor Alva Doomy officiating.
