  Dear Penny, So sorry to hear about the loss of your husband. I didn't know him personally, but did cross paths with him at the ER. What a wonderful, caring doctor he was! Any time my family had to head to the hospital we always hoped and prayed that Dr. Mills was on duty. I am sure he will be deeply missed by you and all that knew him.   To the Family of Dr. Mills, I offer my heartfelt condolences on your loss. Dr. Mill was a great man and was admired by so many that knew him. I used to rent the mobile home he owned on TWP 219 for a few years back in the late 90's, and was very happy to have him help me out when I was going through a rough time in my life. One particular time while living there, my daughter, Kayla, had a little accident and got a pretty nasty bump and a small cut on her head. I took her over to see him, just to ask him if I should take her to the hospital. Well after getting there, he talked to her a bit and while keeping her busy, put 2 stitches in her head and some antiseptic, without her hardly even noticing. He was a wonderful, true spirit and the world will miss him. Dave Higgins

  My heart stopped for a moment today when i saw Dr. Mills name in the obituaries. I couldn't believe what i was reading. A great man has stepped on into his next life. what a beautiful life he has now. To the Mills family, I wish there was something i could say to ease the pain but after going thru this several times myself i know there are no words that will help ease your pain. Keep your faith in GOD and he will wrap his arms around you and see you through this. Our family and the community has suffered a great loss. The medical field was truly Jim's calling, for I remember the many visits when we were growing up when, at the age of 10, he was already practicing. There was always a bird hatching on the mantle, another bird's wing in a splint, a skunk that needed a stink bag removed,or a mouse that needed a leg wrapped and a quiet place to rest--Jim's pillow.   I just learned of Jim's death last night. I'm headed to the State Coroner's meeting tomorrow and was thinking about Jim and hoped he was still winning the battle against his pancreatic cancer. Jim was great Dr. and person. Everyone who knew him has fond memories of him, his intelligence, his down home wit and his practical nature.   Penny, Carmie and Family Thank you so much for taking such great care of Jim during his illness. He was truly loved by so many. I will be forever grateful for the time I spent with him in the Fall and the opportunity to have him show me his beautiful collection of artifacts and arrowheads. I have such fond memories of Millsi coming to the farm after a rain and walking up and down the corn rows picking up arrowheads back in our college days. The frog-gigging with Jim and Paul in the canoe was the best ever. My kids still talk about our family trips to Millsi's home and seeing all the animals/critters. We are very upset that we will not be able to attend the services. We are entrusted to the care of Sharon's elderly aunt in the absence of her parents who just left NY for their vacation in Fla.   I am very sorry to here of this lost,my heart is so heavy.Every time i would go into the emergency room ,i prayed that he would be there.I suffered with migraines and he was the only one that took care of them, where i did not have a funny feeling the next day or still had them.I would try to tell the other doctors on call that i did not want that hang over feeling But! i end up having it ,But with Doctor Mills I had nothing to worry about.plus he was the first one that told me there was medicine out there for the migraines,I am soooo shocked about this ..AWSOME DOCTOR WILL BE MISSED!!

  Jim had a heart of gold & will be sadly missed. I just finished reading the article in the paper and found myself laughing & crying at the same time at the comment that Jim treated as many patients in the ER as he did at the kitchen table. My Grandpa Burch was one of those people treated at the kitchen table! I'll never forget the extra attention he gave my grandpa years ago when he had a cyst removed from his back - coming to the house & changing the dressings for him and the attention he gave him even up to his final days. Jim helped heal not only his patients but the families as well with his huge heart and down to earth approach. We always knew that in addition to grandpa's regular doctors, Jim was looking out for him too & that was a huge comfort. I have to believe that while we've lost a great man, he was greeted with lots of open arms when he entered heaven & I know that my grandpa was one of those souls. Rest in Peace Jim.
