James E. “Smitty” Smith, 83, of Wintersville, OH formerly of Hopedale, OH died Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Life Line Hospital. He was born in Bloomingdale, OH on July 25, 1931 the son of the late Pressley A. and Ruth P. Cline Smith. Smitty was retired from Weirton Steel as a foreman in the Tin Mill after 40 years of service. He attended Wintersville United Methodist Church and was a member of theWeirton Steel 25 Year Club. He enjoyed camping at Austin Lake, golfing and bowling. In addition to his parents Smitty was preceded in death by his 1st wife Frances L. “Ty” Starr Smith. He is survived by his 2nd wife Estella L. “Lou” Willson Smith; children Karen (Mark) Swickard of Toronto, OH, James T. (Sandra) Smith of Columbus, OH, J. Steven Smith of Dallas, TX and Patti Jo (John) Liapakis of Columbus, OH; sister Thelma L. (Jack) Haskins of Pensacola, FL; grandsons Michael Todd (Amy) Carothers of Ricmond, OH and John James Liapakis of Columbus, OH; great grandsons Eric and Rory Carothers. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd., Wintersville, OH on Thursday 2-4 and 6-8p.m. where funeral services will be held Friday, December 5, 2014 at 10a.m. with Rev. Dr. Clint Quillen officiating. Burial at Holly Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church.
