James E. Penebaker, 68, of Steubenville, OH died Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Trinity West. He was born in Steubenville on April 27, 1940 a son of the late Edward A. and Ruth E. Jewett Penebaker. Jim was the retired superintendent at Union Cemetery in Steubenville and former board member. He was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Steubenville Rotary Club, Jefferson County Historical Society.. Preceded in death by his first wife Shirley L. Kittle Penebaker in 2000 and stepdaughter Karen E. Gilcrest. Jim is survived by his wife Marlee Williams Penebaker; daughters Diana L. Penebaker and her fiancé Mark Thompson of Yorkville, OH and Melissa Johnson of Steubenville; son James R. Penebaker of Steubenville; daughter-in-law Shonna Penebaker of Weirton, WV; stepson John Gilcrest of Steubenville, OH; brother Richard A. (Barbara) Penebaker of Wintersville; grandchildren Chris, Brandon, Amber, Chance and Chad and mother-in-law Ruth V. Williams of Steubenville, OH. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Friday from 3-7p.m. Graveside services will be held 9:30a.m. Saturday, at Union Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Steven McKeown officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Union Cemetery Association or Steubenville Rotary.
