Obituary For J. Malcolm Irwin

J. Malcolm Irwin, 90, of Steubenville, Ohio died Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Trinity West. He was born June 19, 1923 in Steubenville, a son of the late James R. & Mary K. Elkins Irwin. He retired as superintendant of Union Cemetery after 20 years of service and served on the board of trustees. Malcolm was a member and usher at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Malcolm was raised a Master Mason in Steubenville Masonic Lodge 45 F&AM in 1950. In York Rite Masonry, he was exhalted a Royal Arch Mason at Toronto, Ohio in 1964. He joined Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite in 1964 and the Steubenville Consistory in 1952. He was a past thrice Potent Master in 1973. Malcolm was coroneted a 33rd degree, honorary member of the Supreme Council in 1964. He served as Sovereign Prince in 1965 and was Commander-in-Chief of Jefferson Consistory in 1979. Malcolm was a founding father and past president of the Jefferson County Historical Society and board member of the First Federal Land Office Park, Inc. and a Rotary member. During WWII, he served in the South Pacific with the US Aviation Engineers. In addition to his parents, Malcolm was preceded in death by three brothers Floyd, James & Benjamin Irwin and sister Marjorie Ryder.Malcolm is survived by his wife Mary Virginia Scott Irwin, whom he married April 21, 1949; and daughter Roseanna Irwin. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home in Wintersville on Sunday 4-7 p.m. where services will be held at 12:30  p.m. Monday.     Mrs. Irwin, Malcolm was a wonderful man, as you know. I became friends with him during his time in Rotary. He was always a consummate gentleman. Upon reading his obituary, I learned much more about him. I'm certain that you have been very proud of his myriad of accomplishments. He will obviously be missed.     Mary Virginia and Roseanne, I was so sorry to hear of Malcolm's death. I'm so thankful rick and I were there to celebrate his 90th birthday! He certainly enjoyed it.     Mrs. Irwin and family. I was so saddened to learn of Mr. Irwin's passing. He was a wonderful person and you both made me smile when you came into see Dr. Metzger. I know that GOD has all of you in his hands and that Mr. Irwin is another angle that was taken to heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow. He will be missed greatly.
