Ida was a role model for me growing up on Lincoln Avenue. She was kind, hard-working, and a generous neighbor to my family. She was a wonderful mother and a courageous woman. She taught me many life lessons through the years. She and her son Andrew faithfully attended the funerals of my parents, grandparents, and many other friends from the South End. In recent years, I called her to thank her for being so kind to me and my family. During our phone conversations, we reminisced about the early days and talked about our families. She talked so lovingly of her children and grandchildren. She loved you all. She made a difference in my life and I am grateful. It was so wonderful to reconnect with this Grand Lady of Scotland and Steubenville.

Ina looked so lovely tonight at the funeral home. Over the past several years I have been privileged to bring Ina Holy Communion every Wednesday at the Heritage Village Apartments. We had wonderful chats every week. She smiled every time she told me about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her face would light up when she waited for those great-grandbabies to be born! We prayed for all of them! She loved her family and it showed. She will be dearly missed. My prayers are with her and all of you dear family that she loved so much. Ina is in a much better place now and out of her pain. I will miss her and she will be in my thoughts and prayers esp. when I walk down the hall of the third floor at the Heritage Village. May God bless you all, Susan Portenlanger
