Helen S. Moore, age 88, lifelong area resident of Steubenville, died Thursday, February 14, 2013 in Acuity Hospital, Steubenville. She was born August 2, 1924 in Follansbee, West Virginia, daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Sivak Sabol Sr. She was preceded also in death by her husband Elwood R. Moore, whom she married on July 17, 1954 and he died on June 24, 2004 and a sister Anna Sabol Meno.Helen graduated from Follansbee High School, Class of 1942 and was Treasurer of all the reunions that were held and was a graduate of Steubenville Business College.She retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company after 32 years as Clerk-Stenographer at the Coke Plant, Follansbee. During her high school years, she clerked at the City Grocery, Follansbee and the hat department of Reiners Department Store.She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and First Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as elder, Sunday School Teacher for 32 years and as Treasurer of the local Presbyterian Women since 1978.Helen also held membership in the Serve Others Circle of the Kings Daughters and Sons where she had served as President and Treasurer, former President and Secretary of the Martha Manor Board, and member of Y.W.C.A.She is survived by a sister Susan Sabol Gerrek of Weirton, a brother Andrew Sabol Jr. of Cary, North Carolina, nieces Tillie Ann Meno and Mildred A. (husband Phillip) Lewis, nephews John Meno, Michael Gerrek, John Gerrek and Andrew (wife Kim) Sabol III, great nieces Kathryn A. Sabol and Airry Schultz, great great newphew Joshua Schultz; additional close relatives Helen LaRue, Eleanor LaRue and Mary Barnes and very special friends Deborah Firm, Gloria Kotur and Fred Huisjack.Friends may call at the Shorac Funeral Home, 611 N. 4th Street, Steubenville, OH on Sunday from 1 – 4 p.m. Additional visitation on Monday from 10:30 until the time of funeral service 11 a.m. at First Westminster Presbyterian Church, 235 N. 4th Street, Steubenville with Rev. Jason Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be directed to First Westminster –or- Martha Manor.
