Helen Katherine Johnson LaRue, of Steubenville, Ohio died Monday, May 25, 2015 in Lansdale, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bruce M. LaRue in 2009. She was born on August 26, 1926 in Lima, Ohio, a daughter of the late Ernest Burt and Katherine Huffman Johnson. Helen graduated from Steubenville High School in 1944. She worked for the Automobile Club until 1960. Helen was a member of First Westminster Presbyterian Church in Steubenville where she was a member of the choir and Helen Martin Circle. She was active in King’s Daughters, YWCA, Women’s Club of Steubenville, and volunteered in many PTA’s and SHS Orchestra events when her children were in school. Helen enjoyed travelling and attending many Pittsburgh Conference events with her husband, and spending time with her granddaughters. Preceding Helen in death, in addition to her husband, were her sister, Maxine Johnson; her brother-in-law, Dale L. LaRue; and son-in-law, George Barnes. Surviving are her two daughters, Mary Barnes of Amsterdam, OH, and Martha (Philip) Jordan of Lansdale, PA; son John LaRue of Columbia, MD; two granddaughters, Katherine and Caroline Jordan of Lansdale, PA; sister-in-law Eleanor LaRue of Steubenville, OH; nephews David (Pam) LaRue of Steubenville, OH and Daniel (Brenda) LaRue of Wintersville, OH; and niece Janet (Kevin) Gooder of Vienna, VA. Friends may call at Shorac Funeral Home, 611 North Fourth Street, Steubenville Friday 4-7 p.m. and at First Westminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jason Elliot officiating. Burial will immediately follow at St. John Cemetery, Follansbee, WV. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Steubenville or to Martha Manor, 408 N. Fifth Street, Steubenville.
