Helen L. Layman, 87, of Wintersville, Ohio died Friday, March 18, 2005 at Trinity West. She was born in Moundsville, West Virginia on July 16, 1917, a daughter of the late Robert E. and Jessie O. Lemasters Freeland. Preceding Helen in death were her husband Frank W. Layman, Sr. on April 15, 1985 and sister Merea Hyde. Helen was a long-time member of the former LaBelle View U.M. Church in Steubenville where she taught Sunday School for 35 years; and currently a member of Wintersville U.M. Church and its Hope Circle and U.M. Women. She also held membership in Y.W.C.A., LaBelle View Leisure Group, Sunset Club, Friendship Club, Wintersville Homemakers and Jefferson County Homemakers Alumni Association. Helen is survived by her sons Frank W. (Lorna) Layman, Jr. of Westerville, Ohio, Robert G. Layman of Circleville, Ohio and Karl J. (Kay) Layman of Canton, Ohio; daughter Helen (Paul) Atkinson of Steubenville; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Monday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Clint Quillen officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben. Memorial contributions may be made to Wintersville U.M. Church Memorial Fund.
