Hazel V. Whitaker, 89, of Steubenville, Ohio died Sunday, February 11, 2007 at Sienna Woods, Wintersville, OH. She was born on April 5, 1917 in Mingo Junction, OH a daughter of the late Harry S. and Ethel Viers Blankenship. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Thomas W. Whitaker; twin brothers Elby and Elzie Blankenship and two sisters Audrey Riley and Faye Wellman. She was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church in Mingo Junction and a 1936 graduate of Mingo High School. She is survived by a daughter Janice (Thomas) Gardner of Amsterdam, OH; a son Mark Whitaker of Mingo Junction, OH; four grandchildren Tara (Stan) Gardner-Cottis, Tom (Kristin) Gardner Jr., Mark and Aimee Whitaker; three great-grandchildren Jennifer, Corey and Chad. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Paul Bigsby officiating. Burial at New Alexandria Cemetery.
