Obituary For Gerald L. Clancey

Gerald L. “Jerry” Clancey, 70, of Steubenville passed away peacefully on March 6, 2015 at Valley Hospice Trinity East. He was born Nov. 28, 1944, in Steubenville, son of the late John and Anna Rowland Clancey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Joan and brothers Kenneth, Thomas and John (Jack).

Gerald was a graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School in 1962. He received his degree in accounting from The College of Steubenville. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., after 35 years. Early in career he was elected to serve as the lead Financial Officer for United Steel Workers Local 1190. He has been a tax professional for over 40 years and built his business as a “side job” while continuing to work at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel. He later became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Financial Planner and founded Clancey Financial Services in 1992. He was very proud of the relationships he built with his employees, clients, and the community. He was a member of Triumph of the Cross Parish and the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy (Behringer), whom he married on May 16, 1966; a daughter, Sherri (Mark) Furda of Pittsburgh, PA; a son, Jerry (Connie) of Mattawan, Michigan, and five wonderful grandchildren: Chelsea, Matthew, Maxwell, Chad, and Alayna, as well as, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-laws, cousins, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved.

Gerald loved spending time with his family and friends, traveling, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, and was proud to have mentored many people throughout his life.

Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, OH, on Sunday from 3 – 7p.m. and Monday 11:30 – Noon (at the Funeral Home). Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Monday at 12:30 p.m. at Triumph of the Cross Parish (Holy Rosary), 280 Rosemont Ave, Steubenville, with Monsignor William Cornelius. Final resting will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Vigil service will be held Sunday at 6:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to Valley Hospice, 10686 St. Rt. 150, Rayland, OH 43943 or American Cancer Society, Jefferson County Chapter.

    Nancy, I am so sorry for your loss. Jerry had a long talk with me when I was going through such a rough time after my divorce. He was so helpful in getting me to a better place. I wish I could have gone to the showing. I had no idea of his passing until I read the newspaper at 10 this evening. You and he will be in my prayers.

I was so blessed to have met jerry back in 2009 when I was his personal trainer at elite gym.He always talked of his awesome wife and wonderful family.He was also one of the funniest people I ever met. We would talk about many different things. He became a good friend over the years. I will greatly miss him and I am so very sad to hear of his passing. He was a good man who left an indelible mark on many people in the world. I know he was a great role model for me in ways that he probably never realized.
