Obituary For George David "Dave" Granatir

On February 11, 2020 George David “Dave” Granatir, age 67, passed away peacefully at his beloved home and farm in Coatesville, PA after a courageous battle with cancer. Dave leaves behind his wife Barbara of 23 years, two daughters: Jennifer Macre and Stefanie Signora and husband Joe; and five grandchildren Anthony, Jimmy, Joey, Sofia and Will. Dave was the son of Sylvia June Granatir and the late George Joseph Granatir. Dave is also survived by his three sisters: Elaine Saltsman, Susan Hershey and husband Adrian, and June Alexander and husband John. Dave was born July 13, 1952 in Steubenville, Ohio. He graduated from Catholic Central High School and Franciscan University of Steubenville with a Masters Degree in Business. Dave worked as a financial officer at the former St. John Hospital before moving to Pennsylvania to continue his career as a financial consultant with Cerner, a Healthcare IT company. He retired in 2016 and spent his time training his dogs, working on his farm and woodworking using the natural wood harvested from his farm. Dave loved hunting and competing in AKC Field Trials with his English Springer Spaniels along with his wife Barbara and some of their closest friends. And while he enjoyed the competition, the most important aspect was the laughter and memories with friends and knowing his dogs gave 100% every time they ran. He also judged AKC events all over the country where he met many wonderful people from Maine to California. In the fall of 2018, Dave was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. He was treated at Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center and was very grateful to the brilliant and compassionate care team who gave him quality of life for over a year to enjoy his family, dogs and hobbies. A private memorial service was held at Shorac Funeral Home for the immediate family members. Memorial contributions can be directed to: Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center. I first met David in 1967, when I went to their home by the Patrol barracks in Wintersville. Susie and I were high school classmates and were dating our senior year and just before I left for college. David was a freshman when we were seniors and I remember him as a very quiet little guy. I never saw him again although Susie and I continued to stay in touch. David will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Rest In Peace!
