Obituary For George C. Yurkosky

George C. Yurkosky, 86, of Steubenville died Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Trinity West.  He was born in Alberton, PA on April 26, 1924 a son of the late Michael and Julia Zurick Yurkosky.  He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he served as an usher.  George proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII (1943-1945) with the First Class Reconnaissance Company 804th Tank Destroyer Battalion.  He was awarded the Northern Africa Middle Eastern Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and 3 Overseas Service Bars. George  retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in 1985 after 40 years of service.  He was a welder on the cold strip and a member of Local 1190.  Preceded in death by his wife Edna Hinkle Yurkosky in 2007 and sister Helen Jones.  Survived by daughters Dreama (Joe) Vagnozzi of Follansbee, WV and Delores (Todd) Cline of Toronto, OH; sister Marge Wisniewski of Fort Lauderdale, FL; brother Larry (Elle) Yurkosky of Stow, OH;  grandchildren Anthony Vagnozzi of Coraopolis, PA, Daniel and Corbin Cline both of Toronto, OH.  Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd., Wintersville, OH on Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8p.m.  Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Monday 11:30a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Msgr. Gerald Calovini as celebrant.  Entombment at Highland Hills Memorial Garden where Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct military honors.  Memorial contributions may be made to: Prime Time Meals on Wheels. Vigil service Sunday 1:45p.m.  The Yurkosky family would like to thank the administration, nurses and aides at Brightwood Center for their compassion, care and love they showed our father. Special thanks to his good friend Michael Gromczewski.

    I met George while visiting my mom at Brightwood.Iwould eat lunch with him and bring him tomatoes from my garden.We would talk about the old days.I will miss him alot. He was akind gentle man!
