Gene A. Smith, Sr., 73, of Steubenville, OH passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014 at his residence after a lengthy illness.  He was born in Steubenville on New Year’s Day in 1941 a son of the late Harry and Anna Piddock Smith.  He was Methodist by faith. In addition to his parents Gene was preceded in death by his wife Rena Clark Smith; brothers John, Raymond and Donald Smith and his sister Carol Smith. He is survived by his sister and caregiver Cherry Bennett and her companion Anthony “Joe” Blankenship of Steubenville; children Gene A. Smith, Jr., Andrew Smith and Cherry Dawson all of Steubenville; sister Joyce Blanchard of Steubenville; special grandson Anthony (Jennifer) Smith, whom he spent his last night with.  Gene is also survived by many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Friends may call at Shorac Funeral Home, 611 N. 4th Street, Steubenville, OH  on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1p.m. with Chaplin Dana Campbell officiating.
