Gary Gambill, 53, of Wintersville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 16, 2019. He was born in Steubenville on June 19, 1965 the son of the late Shirley Whitmer Gambill. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister Sandy Wright, step-father Sherman Stone and step-brothers Will and Raymond Stone. Gary fought melanoma for 10 years before the cancer won the battle. He was a true patriot and served his country for 18 years in the US Army and an additional 5 years in the US Air Force, serving both active and reserve duty. During his military career, he served in many positions, with his favorite being as instructor. During times with reserves, he also worked for UPS and as a correctional officer for Ohio State Prison system, and a correctional officer for the federal prison system in Elkton. He was especially proud of his award while at Elkton for stopping a prison escape by himself. He was a member of the American Legion and the American Legion Riders. Gary was a devoted husband, father, and mentor to many members of his family. He not only supported his family, but would push his family to succeed at everything they tried. Surviving are his beloved wife, Tina Gambill, son Ian Gambill, daughters Hallie Gambill, and Kristen Webster, sister Debbie (Jack) Steele, brother Richard (Mary) Gambill, step-brothers Ron (Linda) Stone and Walter Stone, step-sisters Rayelene (Ron) McElroy and Shirley McNalley. He also left behind several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and numerous step-nieces and nephews, several of which he was exceptionally close with. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday with Rev. Dr. Clint Quillen officiating. Burial will follow at East Springfield Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Hillman Cancer Center, 5115 Centre Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15232.
