Gary E. Jones, age 76, of Wintersville, died Monday, August 17, 2020 at Sienna Skilled. He was a 1962 graduate of Steubenville High School. He served in the Army National Guard. Gary was a Tool and Die Maker and Machinist; retiring from Arcelor Mittal (Weirton Steel). In retirement he found much enjoyment in sailing on Atwood Lake, first on “Liquid Asset” and later on “Top Shelf”. Gary was a member of Atwood Yacht Club, where he was formerly an active volunteer in Junior Sailing, member of the Sailing Fleet, and served as a Trustee. He was also a member of the Sailing Buckeyes Yacht Club. Gary could fix anything and would help anyone. He is preceded in death by an infant son, Gary; parents, Sue and Frank Jones; and brother, Clayton Jones. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara “Bobbie” Jones; son, Matt (Beverly) Jones of Columbus, OH; sister, Carolyn (Ray) Fournier of Miamisburg, OH; sisters-in-law, Judy Jones of Wintersville and Ginger (Bob) Vernon of Roanoke, VA; other relatives and many friends. Friends will be received from 3-6:00 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2020 at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, OH, where a funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday. Gary had me in a hard full nelson for 30 minutes in 6th grade.No physical damage. Mike Vaccaro egged him on.Good thing I liked his family.I sailed, raised a great family and served in the Navy.Glad to see he turned out ok. 😂Sorry to hear he has passed.
