Obituary For Frederic G. Schaub

Frederic G. Schaub, known to all as Fred, was called by God to enter eternal peace at home in Winter Park, Fl, on May 20, 2023.

Born on January 1, 1955 in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the beloved son of George and Helen Schaub. Fred’’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of his friends and family, but his spirit lives on in the memories and community he created.

From a young age, Fred displayed an innate talent for building. As a child in Steubenville, Ohio, he orchestrated the construction of awe-inspiring forts, rallying the neighborhood kids with his natural leadership. His passion for building never waned, leading him to join the Wintersville Junior Volunteer Fire Department and ultimately becoming a full-fledged firefighter with the Wintersville Volunteer Fire Department. Through it all, Fred’s love for firefighting burned bright.

In 1978, Fred graduated from Kent State University, equipped with the knowledge and determination to embark on his home building journey. He started his career with the national home builder, Ryan Homes, in Columbus, Ohio. However, it was in Winter Park, Florida, where Fred found his true calling. For over 20 years, he resided there and established his own company, brand, and passionate team, FG Schaub Custom Homes. Building became Fred’s lifelong passion and he thrived in the art of crafting homes that would endure for generations.

While Fred was a builder at heart, he also had a few other loves. Football held a special place in his heart, from cheering on The Big Red in Steubenville to passionately supporting The Ohio State University Buckeyes, and of course, his beloved Cleveland Browns. He was a dedicated fan through the highs and lows, always finding humor in defeat and triumph in victory.

As much as he loved building and football, Fred also loved traveling and exploring. He found solace in Costa Rica, where he discovered that the best coffee in the world could only come from those rich volcanic soils. Yet, no travel experience could top his fascination with the Hoover Dam. To him, it was an engineering marvel and a testament to human ingenuity.

Fred’s infectious laugh, kind heart, and geuine nature endeared him to everyone he encountered. He possessed a unique gift for making strangers feel like lifelong friends. He approached life with a wit that could lighten the heaviest of moments, and his sharp humor brought joy to all who knew him.

Frederic G. Schaub is now reunited with his father, George W. Schaub (2011), and mother, Helen Elizabeth (Doyle) Schaub (2015). His memory lives on through the laughter and love he shared with family, friends and the countless lives he touched.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial funeral mass at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 852 Main Street, Wintersville, Ohio on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joshua Erickson officiating.

Immediately following mass, friends are invited to St. Florian Hall, 286 Luray Drive, Wintersville, for a time of fellowship and sharing memories.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wintersville Volunteer Fire Department or Steubenville City Schools.
